What should we wear?
Shoes – Sturdy, Comfortable shoes that you can walk / hike in. Tennis Shoes or hiking boots are fine. Please wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.
Outerwear – We recommend layers. A fleece jacket or sweatshirt underneath and a waterproof jacket or rain coat for outer layer works nicely. We will be in the rain forest and there is a chance of experiencing our liquid sunshine.
* Rain ponchos and umbrellas will be available if needed.
What will the weather be like?
The average temperature is between 50 and 60 degrees from May to September. July and August are the warmer months and it can get up into the 70’s. Our tours venture into the rainforest where there is a chance of rain, we provide rain ponchos or umbrellas for your use. The rain is what keeps our forest so lush green.
If the weather is extremely bad we can substitute other locations for touring and fore-go the hike.
What is the Cancellation Policy?
If your cruise ship does not dock in Ketchikan for any reason, your payment is fully refundable.
If you cancel 10 or more days ahead of time your payment is fully refundable.
If you cancel within 10 days there is a $20.00 fee per person cancellation charge and the balance is refundable.
If you cancel within 24 hours there will be no refund.
What Safety precautions do you take?
We carry a First Aid Kit and Bear Repellant / Pepper Spray on our hikes.
When hiking it is important to look down and watch where you step. The trails we use are mostly gravel and well maintained.
Will we see any Wildlife?
Eagles are abundant in Ketchikan and you have a very high chance of seeing the majestic National Bird here. When the salmon are spawning you can see them swimming up the creeks and many are jumping out of the water. There is a chance you will see Black Bear or Sitka Black Tail Deer. Being on the Pacific Ocean we occasionally see Orca Whales, Humpback Whales and Seals. Please remember this is all wildlife so there are no guarantees of sightings.
What if we see a Bear?
NEVER APPROACH A BEAR and NEVER FEED A BEAR! Typically when we see bears we are higher up looking down on them in the creek. We are taught to make noise while hiking so we don’t startle the bears. Always give bears their space. If a bear is close to you: talk loudly and wave your arms in the air. DO NOT RUN, stand your ground, as bears have a chase instinct. A bear may stand on its hind legs, which usually means he is curious, not threatening. Bear attacks are extremely rare, and I do not know of any bear attacks that have happened in the Ketchikan area. We do not have Grizzly Bears or Brown Bears on our island. We only have black bears here. The bears in our area tend to keep to themselves, they are not interested in people. We carry Bear Repellant / Pepper Spray as a safety precaution.
Will you get us back to the cruise ship on time?
Yes we are very aware of the cruise ship schedules, and we will get you back in plenty of time to board your cruise ship. The cruise lines have a financial interest in selling their tours, so they discourage guests from booking independently. It is perfectly safe to book tours with independent operators. Just check reviews on Trip Advisor for information on past guest experiences so you know you are reserving with a reputable tour operator.

Travel & Camp on Durable Surfaces – We use existing trails
Pack It In Pack it Out – We carry out any garbage
Leave What You Find – We leave things as we find them
Minimize Campfire Impacts – We don’t build fires on our excursion, but if we needed to we would use a fire ring and completely put the fire out.
Respect Wildlife – We don’t feed animals or birds and we keep our distance from them.
Be Considerate of Other Visitors – We do not disturb other visitors.
