Local Wildlife Experience

American Bald Eagles are abundant in Ketchikan.  You have a very high chance of seeing Eagles, which is our majestic National Bird.  The adult eagles have a white head while the juvenile eagles do not.

We have Sitka Black Tail Deer, Black Bear, Mountain Goats and Grey Wolf, however it is more rare to see these animals.

We have 5 Species of Salmon, and when they are spawning in our local creeks you can see them swimming up stream and many are jumping out of the water.

Ketchikan is on an island in the Pacific Ocean, where there are Orca Whales (locals call them Killer Whales, and Natives called them Black Fish), Humpback Whales, Seals, Sea Lions and Otters.

Our favorite local seafood catches are King Salmon, Halibut, Red Snapper, Dungeness Crab and Shrimp.  We recommend trying some the local seafood while you are in town, it is the best!

In the intertidal zone on the beach you can see Star Fish, Sun Fish, Mussels, Bull Kelp, Seaweed, Hermit Crabs, and Limpets (China Caps) at low tide.  We have tide changes of up to 24 feet twice a day.

Please keep in mind this is all wildlife and there is no guarantee of sightings.  We will make stops to view any wildlife we do encounter.
