The City of Ketchikan is replacing the old wooden plank dock at Berth II with concrete.  I am torn on whether I like the decision to replace with concrete instead of wood.  Some of those wooden planks are about 100 years old and are a nice reminder of the important timber industry of our town’s past.  Yes they were uneven and you could notice movement as you would drive over the historic wooden dock, yet it was part of the charm of our town.  It will be nice to have a new concrete dock with less tripping hazards for our visitors, however I will miss the old time character of the historic wooden dock.  You can still find wooden board walks on Creek Street for that nostalgic charm.
